Ah the cruising life! On a typical summer weekend, over 1,200 boats visit
Great Salt Pond on Block Island - on moorings, rafted together, at
anchor or
at one of four marinas. The marinas offer all the comforts of home --
fuel,
ice, showers and laundromat. Champlins even has a movie theater and a
fresh
water pool. Ninety bright green moorings, owned by the town, are
located in
the southwest corner of Great Salt Pond in front of the marinas.
Early
arrivals pick up an empty mooring, and the harbormaster's launch drops
by to
collect a small fee. This past summer, Kathy and Paul Hotz, on the
Club's
annual pilgrimage to Block Island, were all smiles after securing their
boat
to a town mooring and then boarding their dinghy to visit the
Jacobsons. For
information about cruising this season to Block Island and other
destinations, contact Richard Codd, Len Keating or Wayne Stryker.
