Summary of Master Plan for Raritan Yacht Club

Section I:        Goals and Purposes

The Raritan Yacht Club adopts the following Goals and Purposes:

1.         Compliance:  To achieve full compliance with applicable laws, especially as they relate to safety of members and visitors who use our facilities, and accessibility to the physically handicapped.

2.         Safety:  To make all facilities as safe to use as reasonably possible, even where not strictly required by codes.

3.         Traditional functions:  To reinforce the use of our facilities by members and their families for sailing and related social activities.  To make the facilities as functional for these purposes as reasonably possible.

Section II:       Identify specific areas in need of improvement.

1.         There is no lavatory accessible at the surf room level.  The use of this room for club functions requires toilet facilities for both building and accessibility code compliance.

2.         Building entrances do not satisfy building codes.

3.         Grill Room baths do not satisfy current accessibility codes.  Door that open into dining areas are objectionable when formal functions are conducted.

4.         Grill Room acoustics are very poor, make the room less desirable for functions than it could be.

5.         Grill Room aesthetics have been recognized as in need of upgrades (Busch Plan).

6.         Deck rails interfere with visibility and are not compliant with current codes.

7.         Marina” area is subject to increasing commercial boat activity and accompanying wake, making bulkhead launches more dangerous and existing launch docks less stable.

8.         Increasing pleasure boat use in Raritan Bay makes “Marina” space more valuable.

Section III:     Solutions

1.         Construct handicapped accessible bath off the Surf Room over the Grill Bar. ( Plans in hand)

2.         Make Club entrances accessible consistent with building character (i.e., keep front doors on building). (Plans underway)

3.         Upgrade Grill Room for functions and aesthetics. (Plans in hand)

4.         Build new, protective dock system to achieve safer bulkhead launches, safer club launch use and add protected marina space.( Permitting underway)

5.         Replace deck rail(s).

Section IV:     Future Plans

The forgoing projects will “maximize” many facilities at RYC and no further

improvements would be required for the foreseeable future.  This would include:

   -  the Surf Room

     -  the Grill Room

     -  the Marina.

As such, these projects could be considered as all that the Club requires for the next few years.  Other proposals will be considered after progress has been achieved on these priority plans.
