Flying Scot Fleet
Raritan Yacht Club is building a Flying Scot Fleet. Join now and help us grow!
Designed in 1957 by internationally known racing champion Gordon Douglas, the Flying Scot features over 200 Square feet of sail, a low displacement design and a flat, tapered stern which allows her to plane.
Looking for an alternative boat for our Winter Frostbite Series, a cadre of RYCers with help from our friends from Monmouth Boat Club, decided to give Flying Scots a try. That effort was a resounding success. At last count the RYC Flying Scot Fleet had grown to 14 boats! Enthusiasm has grown beyond our expectations. In 2023, RYC added a Friday One Design Racing; a multi race format featuring 3-5 races per night every Friday eventing from May through October. Further, our members are traveling to other clubs and competing in Flying Scot events throughout the area. Interested? Click HERE to add your name to our crew list.
Goals of the Flying Scot Program
1. Increase participation at the club by creating additional opportunities for one-design racing
2. Increase participation in sailboat racing for current & future members, with a competitive fleet of affordable boats
3. Elevate the dinghy racing by providing a venue built around a boat that can fly a spinnaker and is conducive to longer courses
4. Provide additional activities at the club, which will increases the fun factor and therefore the value proposition of RYC membership.
